Bye bye savings, future vacations and non fat lattes ...

We are thiiiiiiiis close to closing escrow. It has been an adventure. That's my nice way of saying that certain parts have been a big pain in our asses that had us running around to and fro, ensuring that nothing smacked of efficiency. As a gal who has embraced and owned her Type A personality, inefficiency and redundancy of work drives me BATTY. Anyway, we are poised to be home owners by this weekend. But just as I wrote in a previous entry, nothing is a done deal until the keys are in our hands (wise advice given by a wise sister.)
I am a positive person and determined to adore if not love our new home. I was pleasantly pleased during an exploration to find a bay trail less than 3 minutes driving time (or a long walk from the house.) It actually starts at the salt flats and leads to the bay and eventually the San Mateo bridge. I was so excited because The Man has been wanting a running trail close to the house like when he lived in San Jose. And what a great walk or bike ride for me - it's very breezy and perfect work out weather.
So bye-bye comforts and luxuries. We know that having the house will be worth it but I can't help be a little bittersweet over my break up with spa treatments. And restaurant dining. I'll miss you ...

With your new house, you can make one room your own spa room! :) And who needs restaurants when you've got a new kitchen to whomp some food up in? :) Plus, it sounds like you'll have way more fun setting up the new place and exploring your new neighborhood! YAY for being homeowners!!! :D

You guys are so sweet! OK, last night was a prime example of us running around to and fro: we had a Notary come to our house at 8:30pm and not leave until 10pm. We had not been told that we needed to sign the papers, like, RIGHT NOW. We were under the impression it would be Friday (and they were processed late NOT because of us.) We were also told yesterday that we needed our deposit by that time too. Really? Because you gave us our total just the night before?! And you failed to tell us that a Notary at our house would cost an additional $150. And that's just a sample of our "adventure."
Deep breath. We are very close. And you are all welcome to visit. Once we get those keys in our hot little (well, my little and The Man's big Construction Man) hands.

Oh yes...they will hit you with every hidden cost they can! If possible, have your realtor review the closing costs list. We had our realtor come with us to the paper signing and she was able to identify and have them remove $3K in unnecessary charges.

I so remember the quickness with which everything moved...and how like 5 months after we moved in, we were hit with our first property tax bill and it was due in 2 weeks...the whole thing. We almost had a heart attack. Homeownership is great -- just be prepared for anything and everything! :)

Oh, I had forgotten all the last-minute meetings! And the extra costs in notarry services :-(
However! This is a most exciting time, and I KNOW you are going to make this beautiful house an even more wonderful home!!!!!
